The SE MN FMC is a non-profit organization formed to encourage music education and to achieve high musical standards in accordance with the goals of the National Federation of Music Clubs and the Minnesota Federation of Music Clubs.

The purpose of establishing a club in Rochester is so that we can have a Festival for our students.

Teacher dues are $30.00 per year, which includes membership in the Minnesota Federation of Music Clubs and the National Federation of Music Clubs. Included in your member is a subscription to NFMC’s Music Clubs Magazine.

Dorian Music Festival

The 52nd annual Dorian Keyboard Festival will take place the weekend of November 13-15, 2009. The guest artist and clinician this year is Dr. Laura Melton, Associate Professor of Piano and Coordinator of Keyboard Studies at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.

The Festival begins on Friday, November 13th with a recital at 7:30 by Dr. Melton. The recital is free and open to the public.

Dr. Melton will give a masterclass involving Luther College piano students on Sunday, November 15, between Noon and 3:00 p.m.

A special bonus this year will be a concert by the Luther College Symphony Orchestra at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 15.   A featured work on that concert will be a major piano work, performed by one of the Luther piano faculty members.

High school students will perform on Saturday the 14th. Their morning or early-afternoon performances will be critiqued, and a number of the students will be invited to perform again in honor recitals late Saturday afternoon and evening.  Pianists, organists, and harpischordists are all invited to participate.

 Students in grades 7-12 are eligible to participate in the Festival. The cost of participation is $8.00 for a 10-minute session (available only to students playing up through the Early Intermediate level); $16.00 for a closed 20-minute session; or $20.00 for a 20-minute master class session with Dr. Melton or Luther faculty members  Master class performers must come with a memorized piece.

This competition is for pianists, vocalists, and instrumentalists. It is open to students in grades 8-12 residing in a 50-mile radius of Rochester. Each entrant will perform two contrasting and memorized pieces (10 minutes total). There are 12 scholarship awards in addition to a music camp scholarship and the Carter Douglas Memorial Scholarship. Those wishing to enter should register on their own upon consultation with their teacher.
