Where’s the Beat? + Mini Showcase
Mary Sallee from Norman, Oklahoma, wears many hats as a musician – pianist, teacher, clinician, composer, and performer. She writes a majority of the music used in her piano studio as well as vocal and choral music. She has over 45 publications with various publishers. Her topic today before the mini showcase is designed to explore the WHAT, WHERE, WHY, WHEN and HOW of teaching students to count aloud as a technique in developing musicianship. Various solutions will be discussed for addressing common rhythmic “issues.” (This program is sponsored in part by a grant from the Minnesota Music Teachers Association Foundation.) Please invite your friends to come to this!

MMTA Piano Exam Review of Levels 2, 4, and 6
Presenters: Zoe Abrahamson (2), Gretchen Wilson (4),
and Sue Leonard (6)
Here is your chance to see how three experienced teachers use the MMTA Piano Exams to benefit the students in their studios. Choosing the level and repertoire that a particular student will grow through and then preparing the keyboard skills and sightplaying skills to round out the curriculum takes a lot of planning and thought. But the incremental learning achieved by a well-thought-out plan reaps many rewards.
